The Barn Owl is the most widely known and widely distributed owl on earth. Naturally, there are many subspecies known.
Because it is so widespread, it is not threatened as a species, but many local populations are threatened by loss of habitat.
There is still discussion over the place of the subspecies of Barn Owls and whether some close species should be lumped in with it.
