Greater Rhea

The Greater Rhea is the largest bird in the western hemisphere. It normally lives in the eastern half of South America. The males can get up to about 5 feet tall.

The Rheas eat mostly plants.

Interestingly enough, there is a wild population in Germany. Some years ago, three pairs escaped from captivity and are now protected.
