The Snowy Owl, Bubo scandiacus, is a beautiful typical owl from the arctic and occurs in all northern continents. It is seen frequently on the ground as well as on posts and poles. It hunts mostly at night.

Classification:

Order: Strigiformes
Family: Strigidae
Genus: Bubo
Species: B. scandiacus

I spotted this bird on the third pole west of the corner of Morrison Rd. E and Janett Rd. N. As I approached it, it flew behind me to the pole next to the corner. Then it flew off to the east.

This owl was about a mile to the west of where I first saw the one above. So, this may be the same bird. If so, it circled around and then flew in front of me.
