The Rough-legged Hawk (called Rough-legged Buzzard in Europe) is a hawk of the arctic. It will come south in the winter and becomes the most common hawk in the winter where it occurs.

Sometimes it is a bit hard to tell from the Red-tailed Hawk, but there are differences in the tail pattern and wing pattern.

Classification:

Order:  Falconiformes
Family:  Accipitridae
Genus:  Buteo
Species:  B. lagopus
