The Spotted Thick-knee is a wading bird from the southern half of Africa. It is fairly common.

"Spotted Thick-knee Burhinus capensis, previously called Dikkop, 43 cm There are 9 species of Thicknees found worldwide, 4 off in Africa. These are nocturnal waders. hence the large eyes. they have long legs and are very vocal at night. We have a pair just a few houses away. The belong to Burhinidae. In some parts of the world, they are called curlew or stone curlew."
