The Red-legged Seriema (aka Crested Seriema) is a somewhat comical member of a crane-like family with only one other species - the Cariamidae.
They live in South America in the grasslands south of the Amazon. They hunt by walking through the grass and picking out whatever they need to eat. They can run as fast as 15 miles per hour and if that is not fast enough, will fly away.
Classification:
Order: Gruiformes

"Male and female Red-legged Seriemas look alike, although males are slightly larger than females. Both weigh about 1.5 kg, and stand approximately 90 cm. Their most striking feature is the crest, which is unique among South American birds."
