The Great Frigatebird lives in the southern Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and a few live in the Atlantic Ocean.

They eat primarily fish, but will sometimes steal food from other birds and baby birds as well. This does not happen as often as with other Frigatebirds.

Great Frigatebird - pair
The male Great Frigatebird has succeeded in attracting a mate, allowing him to deflate the cumbersome gular sac. Her red eye- ring is definitive in separating her from the Magfificent Frigatebird female. The white bib with gray gular sac also help separate here from the Magnificent Frigatebird female.

Great Frigatebird - male
Oh my. The gular sac seemed hyperinflated by the searing sun. Nice place to rest one’s bill, I guess. We can see a bit of the green sheen on the back that suggests that this is the Great Frigatebird. Also visible is a light brown line of feathers on the side of the wing, known as an "alar bar", which is a more prominent feature of the Great Frigatebird and not prominent on the Magnificent Frigatebird. Both species nest in the Galapagos Islands.
