The Verdin, Auriparus flaviceps, is rather unusual in that it is the only member of its family found in the American continents. The other 12 or so species are found in Europe, Asia and Africa.

The male is distinctive with its yellow head and gray body along with its very small size. It lives from the desert southwest of the United States through central Mexico.
